The AngloGold Ashanti School Obuasi 10th Graduation Ceremony marked a significant milestone in the school’s journey of providing quality education in Obuasi.

Held under the theme “Empowering Generations Through Quality Education”, the event showcased academic achievement, creative talent, and inspirational leadership.

This year’s graduation saw 716 students progressing through the school’s system, including 252 JHS 3 graduates who were honored for their hard work and discipline.

The event was held at the school’s premises and attracted dignitaries from AngloGold Ashanti Mine, KNUST Obuasi, the Obuasi Education Directorate, and proud parents and guardians.

A standout moment was the recognition of Isasbella Afriyie Kumi, who was named Best Student among the JHS 3 graduates.

Excelling in five subjects, Isasbella expressed her gratitude to God, her parents, teachers, and classmates.

She encouraged her peers to stay focused and prayerful, adding that she aims to pursue science in Senior High School.

In his welcome address, Mr. Simon P.K. Attah-Cato, Executive Director of AngloGold Ashanti Schools, highlighted the importance of holistic education.

He emphasized that education should shape not only the intellect but also character and emotional intelligence.

He praised the class of 2025 for their courage, discipline, and growth, and urged students to remain confident in their uniqueness as they move into new phases of life.

He also encouraged parents to explore technical and vocational education for their children, not only traditional options like science or arts.

Mr. George A. Koomson, the Obuasi Municipal Education Director in his address urged parents to be actively involved in guiding their children through the next phase of their educational journey.

He acknowledged the school’s contributions to academic excellence in the region.

Representing the Managing Director of AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine, Mr. Eric Broni, Senior Engineering Manager, delivered the keynote address.

He reaffirmed the Mine’s commitment to transforming Obuasi through quality education, aligning with their vision to “Make Obuasi Great Again.”

He quoted Nelson Mandela, stating, “Education is the great engine of personal development. It is through education that the daughter of a peasant can become a doctor, that the son of a mineworker can become the head of the mine, that a child of farm workers can become the president of a great nation.

It is what we make out of what we have, not what we are given, that separates one person from another,” and emphasized the importance of educational institutions in shaping future leaders.

The Coordinating Dean of KNUST Obuasi Campus, Prof. Lawrence Darkwah, shared an inspiring message.

He reflected on how education had transformed his own life, from humble beginnings to becoming a professor. He encouraged students to take STEM seriously, to be problem-solvers, and to never limit their potential based on their background.

The graduation ceremony was enriched by vibrant performances from students.

These included poetry recitals, cultural drumming and dancing, and a unique modeling display.

The performances demonstrated the creativity and confidence that AngloGold Ashanti School continues to instill in its students.

A symbolic moment of the event was the pledge led by the Executive Director, where graduates committed to living out the school’s core values of honesty, excellence, and service.

The event concluded with the official declaration of graduation and prayer, sending off students with hope and purpose.

The AngloGold Ashanti School Obuasi 10th Graduation not only celebrated academic milestones but also reaffirmed the school’s mission to nurture future leaders and changemakers.

With its strong legacy of excellence and innovation, the school continues to be a beacon of hope and opportunity in Ghana’s education sector.
