Security measures have been increased in the Ashanti Region following recent killings Security measures have been increased in the Ashanti Region following recent killings

The Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has announced a new set of security directives aimed at addressing the growing security concerns in parts of the region.

The directive, which takes immediate effect, follows an earlier set of measures introduced on July 24, 2025.

In a post shared on social media on Monday, July 28, by the Ashanti Regional Minister and Chairman of REGSEC, Dr Frank Amoakohene, said the decision follows a further review of the current security situation.

“Following the initial security measures announced on July 24, 2025, REGSEC has further reviewed the situation and issues the following new directives with immediate effect,” he stated.

The new directives issued under the authority of the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council include:

1. Motorbike operations are banned between 7:00 pm and 6:00 am.

2. Motorbike riders are not permitted to carry passengers or extra persons, even during the day.

3. Riders are prohibited from wearing clothing that may conceal weapons, such as smocks, bulky jackets, or three-piece traditional outfits.

4. The use of unregistered or unlicensed motorbikes is strictly forbidden.

5. No commuter is allowed to carry weapons, whether licensed or unlicensed, in vehicles or on motorcycles, until further notice.

6. Police and military presence will be increased with the setup of random checkpoints, barriers, and stop-and-search operations.

REGSEC has urged the public to cooperate fully with the security agencies to ensure the success of the measures, which are aimed at preserving peace, protecting lives, and safeguarding property.
