Mamprusi Traditional Council condemns gov’t over Nalerigu restriction

The Mamprusi Traditional Council has issued a scathing statement calling on government to immediately lift the 2:00pm to 6:00am curfew imposed on Nalerigu and its environs, describing it as arbitrary, unjustified, and disrespectful to traditional authority.

Reacting to the curfew introduced yesterday in a statement after the tragic killing of two Nalerigu SHS students by unknown assailants, the council accused government of drawing flawed parallels between Nalerigu and the conflict-ridden Bawku Traditional Area.

“This move is a direct affront to the Nayiri and the people of Mamprugu,” the statement read. “There was no prior consultation with the Overlord. We demand an unqualified apology for this blatant disregard for our authority.”

The Council further rejected any association of Nalerigu with regional instability, insisting that peace continues to prevail across the Mamprugu area, including Walewale and Nalerigu.

“It is troubling that the government continues to pursue a misguided policy of equating the longstanding conflict in Bawku with the peace and stability in Mamprugu,” the statement emphasized.
