SSNIT assures public Labadi Beach Hotel will not be sold

The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has firmly dismissed ongoing speculation about the potential sale of Labadi Beach Hotel, one of the most valuable assets in its investment portfolio.

The assurance came from the Director General of SSNIT, Kwesi Afreh Biney, during a speech at the Trust’s 60th-anniversary celebration launch.

Reiterating SSNIT’s commitment to long-term strategic asset management, Mr. Biney made it clear that the Trust has no plans to divest from the popular beachfront hotel.

“We assure you that it will not be sold,” he said emphatically. “Our strategy is focused on revamping and optimising our existing assets rather than selling them off.”

Labadi Beach Hotel, widely regarded as one of the country’s premier hospitality facilities, has come under public scrutiny in recent months amid rumours of a possible sale. The Director General’s statement is expected to bring relief to stakeholders and contributors concerned about the future of SSNIT’s investments.

Speaking on broader investment directions, Mr. Biney highlighted the Trust’s diversification efforts across key sectors, including education, energy, ICT, and finance. Of particular note was SSNIT’s expanding role in student accommodation across Ghana.

“We have invested in student accommodation, providing decent and affordable hostel facilities across six university campuses in Ghana, with over 4,250 beds available,” he said.

Mr. Biney also addressed the Trust’s growing footprint in the energy sector, citing the accomplishments of SSNIT Energy, a wholly-owned subsidiary contributing significantly to Ghana’s national grid.
