A/R: Ghana Tourism Authority shuts down Champion International Hotel, others for operating illegally

The Ashanti Regional Office of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has closed down Champion International Hotel at Anyinam for operating without a valid license and failing to meet essential industry standards.

The closure, which took place on Monday, July 28, 2025, forms part of a month-long compliance enforcement exercise across the region. As part of the operation, GTA officials seized the keys to the hotel rooms and posted a closure notice at the hotel’s main entrance.

Several other hospitality facilities were also affected, including Nana Sarbeng Memorial Hotel at Dichemso, Chasfab Guest House in Kenyase, and Ayigya Hotel. These are among 203 unlicensed hospitality establishments identified during the ongoing regulatory sweep.

A number of hostels in the Ayeduase area—such as Linda Ville, Agyapong Appiah, and Saga City—were similarly affected for failing to comply with regulatory requirements.

The enforcement exercise followed a press briefing earlier that day at the Miklin Hotel, where GTA officials outlined the scope of the operation.

Frederick Adjei-Rudolph, Ashanti Regional Director of the GTA, explained that the closures were based on non-compliance with the provisions of Legislative Instruments (L.I.) 2238 and 2239, which govern the licensing and operation of tourism-related businesses.

He made it clear that the affected facilities will remain closed until they obtain valid operational licenses from the Authority.

Adjei-Rudolph further cautioned that operators who fail to regularize their businesses risk arrest and prosecution, stressing that the GTA will not compromise on public safety and service quality in the hospitality sector.
