A reflection on the decline of support for Hon. George Mireku Duker and the need for a new face in Tarkwa-Nsuaem

The 2024 General Election results from the Dompim Electoral Area, the hometown of Hon. George Mireku Duker, paint a clear and concerning picture for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Tarkwa-Nsuaem. As the home base of the current MP, these results are a strong reflection of the party’s standing and the growing sentiments among grassroots supporters.

In the presidential elections, the NPP recorded a total of 1,309 votes, while the NDC secured 1,782 votes, clearly outperforming the ruling party in what should have been one of its strongholds. Key polling stations like Popoh Akyir recorded extreme margins against the NPP (NPP: 8, NDC: 268), indicating a significant disconnect between the people and their supposed representatives.

The parliamentary results also show warning signs. While the NPP managed 1,630 votes, the NDC trailed slightly with 1,339 votes.

This decline in support, both at the presidential and parliamentary levels, from Hon. Duker’s own electoral area suggests voter fatigue, loss of trust, and the desire for a new direction. It is clear that continued reliance on the same leadership may cost the party dearly in future elections.

The numbers speak for themselves: the NPP needs renewed energy and credible leadership to reverse this trend. The emergence of Fiifi Boafo as a potential candidate represents that much-needed fresh face, one who can rebuild the party’s credibility, reconnect with the grassroots, and unify the base for a strong comeback in 2028.

If Dompim is anything to go by, the writing is on the wall, change is no longer optional, it is necessary. The call for a new face in Tarkwa-Nsuaem NPP is a clarion call and the only name that resonates with the Grassroot, the general populace in the Constituency and even floating voters is Fiifi Boafo.
