Newborn baby found dead at refuse dump at Diabaa

Residents of Diabaa in the Bono Region have been left in shock and sorrow after the body of a prematurely born baby girl was discovered at a local refuse dump on the morning of Thursday, July 28, 2025.

According to information gathered by Adom News, a seven-year-old girl, Ayinyeh Esinam, who was heading to a nearby public toilet, was drawn by the sound of a baby crying. She followed the noise to the dumpsite, only to find the lifeless infant.

The child quickly raised an alarm, drawing the attention of community leaders and other residents.

Confirming the incident, the Assembly Member for the area, Joe Kumi, expressed deep concern over the disturbing trend of newborn abandonment in Diabaa. He noted that similar incidents in the past remain unresolved, intensifying fears among locals.

In response, local authorities are working with community health officers to step up monitoring of pregnant women in the area in a bid to prevent such tragedies in the future.

The incident has also sparked renewed calls for intensified maternal health education, responsible parenting, and improved support systems for vulnerable women.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has launched a full-scale investigation and is appealing to the public for any information that could help identify the person responsible for what many have described as a heartless act.

As investigations continue, residents are left mourning a life that was cut short before it even had a chance to begin.
