NDC running ‘Kwashiorkor’ gov’t under guise of a lean one — Miracles Aboagye

Dennis Miracles Aboagye, an aide to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has criticised the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for allegedly running an expensive government disguised as a lean one.

He claims the John Mahama-led administration is misleading Ghanaians with its rhetoric on downsizing, despite spending more than the Akufo-Addo government, which was often labelled bloated.

Speaking on Accra-based Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily show on Wednesday, July 30, Mr. Aboagye said the economy under the NDC has become unbearable for many.

“This government promised us a lean government and even mocked Akufo-Addo for running a bloated one. True, they came and reduced the number of ministers, but they are spending more,” he stated.

He likened the situation to a “Kwashiorkor economy”—“a government small in size but big in taste,” arguing that “they are spending GHS2.7 billion on government machinery, compared to the GHS327 million spent by the Akufo-Addo government.”

Mr. Aboagye further bemoaned the rise in prices of essential goods, noting, “Cement, which used to be GHS85 to GHS90, is now GHS130.”

“We cannot pretend. I am appealing to the government to reduce the talk and deal with the real issues. We run an electoral democracy, and there is nothing anybody can do about the situation unless they get to work,” he stated.
