Court restricts Nsoatreman owner Ignatius Baffour-Awuah’s movements amid Kotoko murder case

A District Court “B” in Sunyani has placed travel restrictions on former Employment and Labour Relations Minister Ignatius Baffour-Awuah as part of his bail conditions.

The former Sunyani West MP, who owns and finances Nsoatreman FC, is barred from leaving the Sunyani Municipality without judicial approval.

The court presided over by Eric Daning, issued the directive when Baffour-Awuah, 58, appeared alongside two other suspects, Agyemang Duah Owusu, his bodyguard, and Joseph Kyeremeh, on Tuesday.

They are facing charges over the fatal attack that led to the death of Francis Frimpong, a devoted Kumasi Asante Kotoko FC supporter, during a violent clash on Sunday, February 2, 2025.

The incident occurred at the Nsoatre Professor Amoah Koromansah II Stadium, where Nsoatreman FC hosted Asante Kotoko in a Ghana Premier League match.

The court charged Baffour-Awuah and Kyeremeh with “abetment to commit a crime, to wit murder” under Sections 20(1) and 46 of the Criminal Offenses Act 1960 (Act 29). Both were granted bail set at GH¢500,000 with one surety each, to be justified. Baffour-Awuah was also ordered to surrender his passport to the court registry for 14 days.

Meanwhile, Owusu, who was charged with murder, was remanded into police custody. The case has been adjourned to Monday, February 17, 2025.

Prosecutor Inspector Alexander Oppong urged the court to remand all suspects to aid investigations. He revealed that a search of Owusu’s room uncovered two bloodstained outfits and an MP 23 pistol with 15 rounds of ammunition.

Defense lawyer Moses Obah, however, pleaded for bail, arguing that his clients were well-known figures who would cooperate with authorities.
