The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has launched a full-scale investigation into the violent clashes that disrupted the Ghana Premier League match between Nsoatreman FC and Asante Kotoko at the Nana Koramansah Park.
Tragically, a Kotoko fan, identified as Nana Pooley, lost his life after suffering multiple stab wounds during the chaos. The violent scenes also left several others injured and caused significant property damage.
To establish the circumstances surrounding the incident, the GFA has tasked Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Lydia Donkor, who also chairs the GFA Security Committee, to lead the investigation in collaboration with her team and the FA Prosecutor.
The GFA strongly condemned the acts of hooliganism, stressing the need for a thorough probe to address violence in Ghanaian football.
“The incident—which deserves condemnation from all football stakeholders—will be subjected to full-scale investigations in our attempt to curb hooliganism in our football,” the GFA stated.
The association assured the public of its commitment to conducting an exhaustive inquiry and taking firm action against those responsible.
“Football fans and the general public are urged to assist with any relevant information to aid the investigation,” the statement concluded.
