Hard work, dedication, and strategic leadership have paid off for Hon. Thomas Ampem Nyarko as he has been nominated Deputy Minister for Finance in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

His ability to transform the onetime a swing constituency into a stronghold for three consecutive times as well as his vast knowledge and experience in finance have earned him this prestigious reward, marking a new chapter in his political career.

Until his nomination as Deputy Finance Minister, Hon. Ampem Nyarko was a key figure in Ghana’s Parliament, serving as the Chairman of the Sub-Committee on Budget. In this role, he played a crucial part in scrutinizing and shaping the country’s fiscal policies, ensuring responsible financial management and effective budget implementation.

In addition, he has been an active member of other parliamentary committees, contributing to critical national discussions on economic governance, public finance, agriculture, and development planning. His expertise in financial oversight and policy analysis made him a respected voice in Parliament, further solidifying his reputation as a competent leader.

Hon. Ampem Nyarko’s rise to national prominence is no coincidence. Since assuming office as Member of Parliament for Asuogyaman, he has played a pivotal role in strengthening the NDC’s base in the constituency.

Through a combination of grassroots mobilization, strategic development initiatives, and effective political messaging, he has not only retained the seat but has also significantly increased the party’s vote share, giving absolute showdown to his major contenders, mostly from the New Patriotic Party.

Undoubtedly, his leadership has brought unity within the NDC in Asuogyaman, eliminating factionalism and ensuring a collective focus on the party’s vision. By engaging directly with constituents and addressing their needs, he has built unwavering loyalty among party faithful, making the constituency a safe zone for the NDC in an otherwise competitive region.

‘Yes, yes, we knew our MP would get an appointment in the government because he has worked hard and is always with us. We remember him for many reasons, including his support during covid and the dam spillage. He showed love,’ Adzo, a seller at Atimpoku, expressed her excitement in an interview.

Beyond politics, Hon. Ampem Nyarko has been instrumental in driving development in Asuogyaman. He has championed initiatives in education, healthcare, job creation, and infrastructure, ensuring that his people see tangible benefits from his leadership.

His efforts in youth empowerment and entrepreneurship programmes have particularly stood out, providing young people with opportunities to thrive. The MP’s commitment to community development has strengthened trust in his leadership, further solidifying the NDC’s dominance in the constituency.

His nomination and possible appointment as Deputy Minister for Finance is a reflection of his competence, dedication, and strategic role he has played in the party’s success. The NDC leadership recognises his deep understanding of governance and his ability to deliver results, making him an ideal candidate to support the Finance Ministry in managing the country’s economy.

With his new role, Hon. Ampem Nyarko is expected to bring his grassroots experience and financial expertise to national service, helping shape policies that will drive economic growth and improve the livelihoods of Ghanaians.

His elevation to a ministerial position is not only a personal achievement but also a major win for Asuogyaman, particularly the poor road network condition in the area. It places the constituency in a stronger position to attract government attention and resources for further development. Constituents are hopeful that his new role will bring increased investment and policy support to the area.

A native of Anum who identified himself as Azaaman said, ‘Our road from Asikuma to Anum and to Boso and even beyond will be tarred, now that our brother Tommy has been given this appointment. We are happy for our MP’.

As he takes on this national assignment, many believe Hon. Ampem Nyarko’s leadership will continue to shine, not only in Asuogyaman but across the country. His journey from a constituency leader to a key player in Ghana’s economic management is an inspiration, proving that commitment and service to the people do not go unnoticed.

His childhood friend and brother, who gave his name as Rubbaman Agyei in an interview, described the MP in these words, ‘He is an outstanding personality who has never failed in whatever task he has been given. From JHS through to the training college and as DCE, he has been a leader with a difference. Let us wait and see more progress’.

The future looks bright for Asuogyaman and for Hon. Ampem Nyarko, whose influence in both constituency and national politics continues to grow.
