GFA bans Nsoatreman FC home venue after Kotoko fan’s death

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has placed an indefinite ban on Nsoatreman FC’s home venue following the violent incidents that marred their Ghana Premier League match against Asante Kotoko at the Nana Koramansah Park on Sunday

The clashes resulted in the tragic death of a Kotoko supporter, multiple injuries, and property destruction. In a statement, the GFA condemned the violence, describing it as “an unacceptable blemish on the integrity of our game.” The association extended its condolences to the family of the deceased and wished a swift recovery to those injured.

Citing Article 14(2) of the Premier League Regulations, the GFA Executive Committee imposed an indefinite ban on Nsoatreman FC’s home venue, stating that the move is necessary to ensure the safety of all stakeholders while investigations proceed.

The GFA’s Security Committee, led by DCOP Lydia Donkor, along with FA Prosecutors, has been tasked with gathering all relevant evidence, including match reports, to present to the Disciplinary Committee. Additionally, the GFA has engaged the Ghana Police Service to conduct a full-scale investigation into the violence.

“We expect law enforcement agencies to deploy all necessary tools to ensure that those responsible for these heinous acts are identified, arrested, and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” the statement read.

The GFA reiterated its zero-tolerance policy on hooliganism, warning that severe sanctions will be imposed on any club, official, or supporter found guilty of violent conduct.

This decision follows Kotoko’s official statement detailing security breaches, including missile attacks on their bench, a physical assault on goalkeeper Mohammed Camara, and injuries to their Head of Media. The club also confirmed that one of their supporters was stabbed and later died at Sunyani Hospital.
