‘EC barely communicates with our side’ — NDC’s Ewurabena Aubynn

Ewurabena Aubynn, the 2024 National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Ablekuma North, has charged that the Electoral Commission (EC) is treating the NDC unfairly in the ongoing election dispute.

She claims that the commission frequently leaves the NDC out of important aspects of the process, and that the EC’s failure to adequately involve them has been a significant obstacle.

“The EC barely communicates with the NDC side of this process. This has been our complaint all along. Even during the collation exercise, they rarely informed us in good time,” she said.

According to Ewurabena Aubynn, who cited cases of purported prejudice, the EC occasionally initiates procedures without informing NDC representatives.

“For instance, they’ll tell us to come at 10 o’clock, but by 8 o’clock, they’re already there doing their own thing with the NPP. This is a fact. We haven’t heard from them since—when I say we, I mean the NDC,” she stressed.

When asked why she chose to put up victory billboards even though the results were not yet official, Aubynn explained that it was her way of showing her gratitude to the people of Ablekuma North for their support.

“Even if the results had been declared and didn’t go in my favour, I would still have shown appreciation. I would need the people’s support another time,” she explained.

“Even the Good Book tells us to be grateful and show appreciation. There’s nothing wrong with saying thank you—whether the process is ongoing or not. I live with the people. I’ll always need them, so it’s only right to show appreciation,” she added.
