Vetting chaos c’ttee will resume work on Feb 7; in-camera hearing for ‘culprits’ – Bedzrah

After the suspension of its hearing indefinitely on Wednesday, February 5, the Adhoc Committee probing the vetting chaos will continue its work on Friday, February 7, 2025.

The hearing of the witnesses will be made public on Friday with a subsequent in-camera hearing for MPs who were ‘culprit’ in the destruction of the state properties.

Chairman of the Committee, Emmanuel Bedzrah disclosed this in an interview on TV3’s New Day, Thursday, February 6, 2025.

“We will have a press conference today and then we will let Ghanaians know when we are resuming our work. I am sure that tomorrow (Friday) we will continue with the first part which is the witness hearing which will be the public hearing.

“The second leg will be the in-camera hearing of the culprit and then we will show them the video and then we will write our report and present it to the House,” he noted.

During the Committee’s first hearing on the January 30 vetting chaos, proceedings were abruptly suspended after the Clerk to Parliament announced he would withdraw his staff, citing a lack of authorization from the Speaker to continue.

However, in an interview on TV3’s New Day on Thursday, February 6, 2025, Mr. Bedzrah accused the Minority caucus of orchestrating the suspension. He explained that the Minority Leader, Afenyo-Markin, had misinformed the Clerk, falsely claiming that Speaker Bagbin had ordered the suspension.

“I called the Majority Leader and met with him, along with other leaders, including the two deputies, the Clerk himself, and my committee members. I asked them what the problem was,” Bedzrah recounted.

“Then the Minority Leader told me that before the Speaker made his ruling to suspend the suspension, they had met with him, and he had pleaded for the committee sitting to be suspended. So, when we went on air, they were confused.
