A Police Hospital will conduct mass burial for seven unclaimed bodies currently deposited at the VIP Mortuary in Bogoso of the Western Region for the past 20 months.

The bodies include individuals who were victims of vehicle accidents, abandoned remains and individuals who succumbed to crime-related injuries, a statement issued and signed by the Medical Director of the Police Hospital, Commissioner of Police (COP), Dr. Samuel Out-Nyarko.

The Police “Wishes to inform the general public that on February 25, 2025, it will conduct a mass burial for seven unclaimed bodies currently deposited at the VIP Mortuary in Bogoso for the past 20 months.

It said those bodies included individuals who were victims of vehicle accidents, abandoned remains and individuals who succumbed to crime-related injuries.

The statement copied to the Ghanaian Times said despite numerous attempts by Bogoso Police to locate the next of kin of the deceased persons, which have not been identified or claimed, had proved futile.

“We are deeply saddened by this mass burial, we believe that this serves as a reminder to all of us about the importance of securing our identification and taking necessary precautions for our safety,” it stated.

The Police urged members of the community, particularly those who may have lost contact with relatives or have not seen loved ones recently, to liaise with the Bogoso Police, to identify and collect their deceased family members for burial.

“This is a crucial opportunity for identification and closure,” it said.

The Police additionally advised the public on the importance of ensuring that personal identification documents were kept up to date, stressing “That will help prevent individuals from being classified as unknown in the unfortunate event of their passing.

It urged the public always to carry valid identification cards and share emergency contacts.

“We call on the general public to heed these messages and help ensure that no one else meets such an unfortunate end as an unknown, nameless body. If you suspect a missing person in the hospital or have any inquiries, please do not hesitate to contact us on our emergency line on 0552333222, or Bogoso Police on 0244067708,” the statement added.
