The Ejura Traditional Divisional Council has condemned the recent attack on the Ejura District Police Command.

He also called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of the persons involved.

The attack, which led to the burning of the police station and other properties, was allegedly carried out by some youth from Ejura Zongo. It was reportedly triggered by the death of a suspect in police custody, who had been arrested on suspicion of theft. The youth accused the police of mistreating the suspect, leading to his demise.

In response, the traditional authority, led by Ejurahene Barimah Osei Hwedie II, convened a meeting with key stakeholders, including the Member of Parliament for the area, Zongo Chiefs, police representatives, and community leaders.

The meeting aimed to address the root causes of the unrest and develop strategies for lasting peace.

During the meeting, Ejurahene Barimah Osei Hwedie II expressed grave concern over the destruction of properties and urged community members to remain calm. He emphasized the importance of allowing the police to carry out their duties without interference.

“We cannot tolerate such acts of destruction and lawlessness. Let us remain calm and allow the law to take its course,” he stated.

Ashanti North Regional Police Commander, DCOP Jude Cobina, also addressed the gathering, providing an update on security measures. He revealed that over 100 police officers had been deployed to Ejura to restore order and ensure peace.

“We are working closely with all stakeholders to restore calm in Ejura,” DCOP Cobina said. “Let me assure you that all suspects involved in this attack will be apprehended and face the full force of the law.”

DCOP Cobina further urged citizens to respect the law and avoid actions that could lead to legal consequences.

The Ejura Divisional Council has reiterated its commitment to ensuring justice for the destruction caused and has called for swift legal action against the perpetrators. They believe that holding those responsible accountable will serve as a deterrent to others and help maintain law and order in the community.

As investigations into the incident continue, community leaders and law enforcement agencies are working together to prevent further unrest and foster lasting peace in Ejura.
