The government has secured support from the European Union to improve the water supply in the Northern part of Ghana.

The Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, Mr Gilbert Kenneth Agyei, disclosed this when a delegation from the EU, led by its Ambassador to Ghana, H. E. Irchad Razaaly, paid a courtesy call on him on Wednesday in Accra.

Welcoming the delegation, the Minister expressed the government’s appreciation to the EU for supporting the country’s water sector, particularly in rural and small-town communities.

Mr Agyei noted that “the provision of water infrastructure is in line with the government’s desire to expand water supply in communities such as Tamale, Yendi, Sang, Savelugu, Pong-Tamale, Diare and its surrounding areas.”

Ambassador Razaaly, for his part, disclosed the EU’s intention to fund water supply projects in the northern regions of the country in accordance with the signed framework agreement.
