Fire has gutted a five bedroom house leaving the landlord and his wife hospitalised at the Catholic Saint Anne hospital in Damongo in the Savannah region.

The incident occurred on Monday, February 10th, during the day while many occupants of the home had left for work, leaving behind the landlord who is bedridden and could barely move himself out from one of the rooms.

Apart from the physical structure of the house, all other personal belongings like television sets, refrigerators, documents, food stuff, and clothes, among others, were all burnt into ashes.

An eyewitness, Alhassan Mahama said his attention was first drawn to the situation after seeing smoke oozing from a part of the house.

“When we rushed here, only the man was in the fire in one of the rooms so we lifted him out and took him to hospital for treatment “, Alhassan Mahama.

The man suffered burns on the head, arms, and face.

The wife of the victim, who is a queen mother in the traditional area, fainted when she received the news concerning the fire and is also on admission in the same hospital receiving treatment.

Faiza Gaddo, a daughter of the couple spoke to Myjoyonline.

“Our situation is pathetic because even though no family member has died, we lost every family property, including memorable ones like pictures. My certificates, passport documents, and my mother deals in traditional cloth, they all got burnt and that’s one of the reasons she went unconscious upon hearing the news.”

When asked about the possible cause of the fire, Faiza attributed it to an electrical fault.

Meanwhile, the Savannah Regional commander of the Ghana National Fire Service, DCFO. E. Ofori-Adjei told Myjoyonline that personnel were dispatched to the scene of the disaster, but their arrival could not save the situation.

He, however, said the command was conducting further checks to establish the cause of the fire.
