Charles Asiedu, the Member of Parliament for Tano South, has detailed how he struggled to secure a job after the National Democratic Congress (NDC) lost power in 2016.

According to him, he, along with his brother, had to lose their jobs because of their father, now the current chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah.

He explained that due to his father’s affiliations with the NDC and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) winning power, he was rejected even by companies not under the government due to external threats and his father’s name attached to him.

He added that he had to resort to becoming his father’s driver.

Speaking in an interview on TV XYZ shared on social media, he stated, “In 2016, when NDC lost power, my brother Kwaku and I were not working in the government sector. We were not employed by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. We were working at the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, a private sector.

“When we lost the election, up till today, my laptop is still there. People said because of the name Asiedu Nketiah, no way, we can’t work there.

“They threatened the director that if he doesn’t know and we come to the workplace again, he would be sacked from the country.”

He continued, “I had my master’s degree and was driving my father as his personal driver.

“When I write applications for job offers…when they see my name Charles Asiedu, they claim that they cannot employ me because of my name.

“Sometimes I go for interviews, and they tell me I am overqualified, so I should come for an appointment letter. But later, I would be told that due to external influence, they cannot employ me,” he stated.
