Authorities at Asato-Menuso D/A Primary School in Kadjebi in the Oti Region have appealed to the Kadjebi District Assembly, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and philanthropists to provide them with a modern six-unit classroom block with ancillary facilities.

They said such a facility would contribute significantly to enhancing the educational experience of students and teachers, fostering a more productive and enjoyable learning atmosphere.

Cephas Ababio, the Asato-Menuso School Management Committee Chairman, made the appeal through the Ghana News Agency (GNA).

He said the lack of decent classroom blocks was affecting teacher retention and enrolment and was hindering the progress of the learners.

Ababio, who led the GNA to the school, said the institution was established in 1942 to provide basic education to the residents of the area, who, until then, had to travel about 18 kilometres to Asato to access education.

He stated that the current mud-roofed structure, which was on the verge of collapse, was constructed by members of the community to house the pupils, with the hope that the government and benevolent organisations would support the construction of appropriate structures, but nothing of the sort had happened since.

Ababio said due to the deplorable state of the classrooms, most of the pupils had left for other schools, and that the provision of modern classroom blocks would reverse this trend.

Francis Kofigah, the Secretary of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), said the provision of contemporary classrooms with flexible designs would allow for different teaching methods, group work, and collaborative learning activities.

Kofigah explained that their appeal to the Kadjebi District Assembly for the provision of such a modern edifice for the school had yielded no result; hence, they were calling on NGOs for help.

He added that the community members were ready to provide communal labour to any NGO willing to help them build decent modern classroom blocks.

Gifty Dzidedi Zatey, a Class One pupil of the school, told the GNA that due to the deplorable state of their classrooms, classes had to stop whenever it threatened to rain. She appealed for massive support in the provision of decent classroom blocks so they could concentrate and learn effectively.
