Newly appointed Sports Minister, Kofi Adams, has assured the public that those responsible for the murder of Asante Kotoko fan, Francis Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as Nana Pooley, will face punishment.

The tragic incident occurred during a Ghana Premier League match between Nsoatreman FC and Kotoko at Nana Konamansah Park in Nsoatre.

The minister emphasized that the rule of law will prevail, and no one involved will be shielded from accountability, regardless of their status.

This promise comes after Adams visited the Kotoko camp on Friday, where he met with some club officials, including Kwesi Appiah and Nana Apinkra.

” We will not just condemn the incident [Pooley’s death] and leave it at that. Whoever is found to have played a role, regardless of the status of the individual, we will see to it that punishment is given.”

“ There should not be any room for violence in our sports. Under normal circumstances, sports should be the forum to unite people. Sports should not be resulting in this kind of situations. “  he added

Seven arrests have been made, including Nsoatreman FC bankroller Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, following Pooley’s death.

Although the former Employment and Labour Relations Minister has been granted bail by District Court “B” in Sunyani, he has been placed under a movement restriction order.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has placed an indefinite ban on Nsoatreman FC’s home venue following the violent incidents that marred their Ghana Premier League match against Asante Kotoko at the Nana Koramansah Park.

Additionally,  Asante Kotoko has announced an indefinite suspension of all senior team football activities until justice is served, following the killing of their passionate supporter.
