Kim Lars Bjorkegren has been officially introduced as the new head coach of the Black Queens in a ceremony held in Accra.

His appointment marks a new phase for the team following the exit of former coach Nora Hauptle.

The event was attended by Executive Council Members Gideon Fosu and Samuel Aboabire, alongside GFA General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo, Technical Director Professor Joseph Mintah, and assistant coach Anita Wiredu Mintah.

Bjorkegren, a Swedish tactician with 18 years of coaching experience, has previously worked in Sweden, China, and the United States.

His achievements include winning the Cyprus Women’s League with Apollon Ladies and guiding Linköpings FC to the Swedish Damallsvenskan title.

Executive Council Member Gideon Fosu expressed confidence in Bjorkegren’s ability to elevate the Black Queens, highlighting his expertise in women’s football and his background in education and sports psychology as key strengths.

Bjorkegren will soon embark on a 10-day training tour in Morocco, where the team will play an international friendly against the Moroccan national team and a club side in Casablanca.

His immediate focus will then shift to preparations for the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in July.

Ghana will play reigning champions South Africa, Mali, and Tanzania in Morocco.
