How can Ofori-Atta be traumatized by raid, judging by what he did to Ghanaians?

Mustapha Gbande, NDC Deputy General Secretary Mustapha Gbande, NDC Deputy General Secretary

Deputy General Secretary of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has questioned claims that former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta was left traumatized after a National Security raid on his private residence in Cantonments, Accra.

Speaking on the issue, Gbande dismissed the concerns, arguing that the real trauma was suffered by Ghanaians who lost their livelihoods due to policies implemented under Mr. Ofori-Atta’s tenure as Finance Minister.

“What is more traumatizing than the collapse of local banks, which left over 5,000 people jobless?

Innocent people lost their monthly stipends, homes were broken, and dreams were shattered because Ken Ofori-Atta decided to collapse nine local banks,” he said.

He also referenced the pension bond haircut, which saw elderly citizens protesting in the streets to demand the payment of their government bond coupons.

“To top it all, Mr Gbande who is now the Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Operations at the Presidency .he said Ken Ofori-Atta slashed pensioners’ investments in government bonds, leading to mass protests.

How can anyone claim a mere raid on his residence is more traumatizing than what these pensioners endured?”

Mr. Gbande insisted that the law must take its course if Mr. Ofori-Atta is found guilty of any wrongdoing.

He also dismissed suggestions from elements within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that the National Security should have publicly announced the raid beforehand.

“What they wanted was for National Security to declare the raid in advance so Ken Ofori-Atta could erase all necessary evidence,” he alleged.

He further warned that the NDC remains committed to seeking justice, regardless of Mr. Ofori-Atta’s location, health or fate.

“If Ken Ofori-Atta dies in the United States of America, the NDC will still prosecute and jail his dead body to assuage the pain he has caused Ghanaians during his tenure as Finance Minister,” he declared.

Mr Gbande raised these questions while speaking in an interview with Mac-Jerry Osei Agyemang on Accra-based Neat FM on Friday, February 14, 2025.
