The commissioning of a newly built primary school in CK Kope, Tapa Abotoase, in the Biakoye District of the Oti Region, was marked by a passionate call to action from the Board Chairman of Star Oil, Torgbui Xornametor, also known as Vincent Kaledzi.
Speaking at the event, he emphasised the importance of community development and the need for individuals, particularly those with the means, to give back to society.
Torgbui Xornametor shared his personal motivations for supporting such community initiatives, explaining that it was the eagerness and enthusiasm of the children during his first visit that inspired him to continue his philanthropic efforts.
“When I saw the children the first day, I started with the shade, the way the children were rushing, the way they were anxious. That motivated me to continue. The more I saw their appreciation and involvement, the more it encouraged me to do more for them,” he said.
His emotional connection to the community and its people was evident, as he emphasized the importance of paying back to society.
“I believe there are people in this country who are wealthy enough to help, but have not. So, I would appeal to everyone: let us pay back to society. Let us give back, and it will be a very happy world if we all continue to do so,” Torgbui Xornametor urged.
Torgbui Xornametor also reflected on the other projects he is involved in, which aim to improve living conditions and access to basic amenities in rural communities.
“We are working to improve the health sector in several places. In Nikoto, for example, they didn’t have an access road to their town, so we built a culvert to facilitate travel to Lori,” he shared. The community’s needs are always at the forefront of his efforts, as he described how the construction of a worship place in some churches had also been part of his initiatives.
His dedication to helping the underserved communities extended beyond just financial support.
Torgbui Xornametor recalled a challenging moment during the construction of an architectural building when the contractor found it necessary to demolish the structure, much to the dismay of the local people.
“They burst into tears because the money was borrowed, and they had no other options. But I said, ‘No, let’s take it out.’ It is my motivation to see people involved and happy, and with the help of God, we can make things better,” he explained.
His approach to giving back to society stems from a deep belief in the importance of fostering growth, especially for the younger generation.
“It is just fair to look back and let the young ones grow in a better way, grow better than you,” he remarked, highlighting his commitment to ensuring that future generations have better opportunities than the ones before them.
The newly constructed primary school in CK Kope, a project that has been part of Torgbui Xornametor’s broader philanthropic vision, is set to positively impact the educational journey of many children in the area.
The school is equipped with modern facilities to provide a conducive learning environment for the children, empowering them to strive for excellence and a brighter future.
Torgbui Xornametor expressed his continued commitment to social development, stressing the importance of community leadership in maintaining and growing these projects.
“We need to manage these schools properly and keep up the standards,” he urged, echoing his call for active participation and responsibility from all sectors of society.
