The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has defended its decision to declare Ken Ofori-Atta a fugitive, stating that the move was necessary due to his continuous failure to cooperate with corruption investigations.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile, Samuel Appiah Darko, Director of Strategy, Research, and Communication at the OSP, clarified that the office had exhausted all options before taking legal action.

“We did not take this decision lightly. It became necessary because he has shown no willingness to appear before us despite several attempts to engage him,” he asserted.

Darko further explained that Ofori-Atta’s prolonged stay abroad and lack of communication signalled an attempt to evade accountability. “The law is clear—if an individual refuses to cooperate with an ongoing investigation, the necessary legal steps must be taken,” he added.

The former Finance Minister has been under investigation for his role in multiple financial dealings, including matters related to the National Cathedral project and Strategic Mobilization Limited (SML).
