The Ghana Association of Writers (GAW) earlier today launched the Writers and Readers Club at Wajir Barracks ‘B’ Basic and High School in the Greater Accra Region.

The ceremony, themed “Turning the Page,” aimed to promote reading, writing, and creative expression among students.

Delivering a speech as a Guest Speaker on September 27, 2024, acting General Secretary, Michael Agbesi Kelly emphasized the importance of reading and writing for personal growth, critical thinking, and effective communication in solving societal problems.

Mrs. Mariska Araba Taylor-Darko, former Treasurer and Organizer, motivated students to make reading and writing a daily habit. Students showcased their talents through poetry, rap, and dance performances.

GAW donated books to kick-start the club, and the head teacher and students appealed for reading and learning materials. Madam Theodora Mamle Lartey (Headmistress), received the books with gratitude and appealed for donors, writers, and the public to support their initiative in any kind.

Founder Ms. Yvonne Atimbiok outlined the club’s objectives: developing writing skills and providing a platform for showcasing students’ work.

Distinguished attendees included representatives from GAW, Mrs. Rebecca Abafum and Gina Akua Padi, Mr Frederick Aryeetey – Ledzokuku West School Improvement Support Officer (SISO), Major Mrs. Elizabeth Nana Odjidja (Chairperson), W. O .1 Philip Obeng ( P. A Chairman), Mr Emmanuel Nii Sowah ( P A Secretary), Ledzokuku Municipal Guidance & Counseling Coordinator, Mrs Charity Willie-Doe among others.

This initiative marks a significant milestone in nurturing Ghana’s future writers and thinkers.
