Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh is set to appear before Parliament today, February 18, to provide an update on Ghana’s ongoing public health emergencies.

His appearance follows a request by Minority Leader and Efutu MP, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who raised concerns over recent outbreaks of cholera and cerebrospinal meningitis (CSM) in various parts of the country.

In response, First Deputy Speaker Bernard Ahiafor formally summoned the Health Minister to brief the House on the government’s efforts to contain the outbreaks and safeguard public health.

Mr. Akandoh is expected to present a comprehensive report detailing the extent of the outbreaks, government interventions, and strategies to mitigate their impact on affected communities.

Mr. Afenyo-Markin, whose constituency has recorded cholera cases, has questioned the effectiveness of current containment measures and called for immediate action.

Ahead of his parliamentary briefing, the Health Minister has conducted field assessments in affected regions. He visited the Western, Greater Accra, and Central Regions to evaluate the cholera outbreak and traveled to the Upper West Region to inspect the meningitis crisis.
