Immediate past Information Minister, Fatimatu Abubakar, has taken a swipe at the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyabeng, over his recent comments regarding the raid on former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta’s house.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), which has declared Mr. Ofori-Atta a wanted fugitive, described the raid on his house on Tuesday, February 11, as a staged act meant to court public sympathy and derail the corruption investigation against him.

“Our intelligence indicates that the purported raid on Mr. Ofori-Atta’s residence was staged, or at best, an impostor action aimed at discrediting the OSP and derailing the investigation.

“The OSP is not deterred by such occurrences, and the investigations will continue as prescribed by law,” Kissi Agyabeng stated at a press conference on Wednesday, February 18.

However, later, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga confirmed on the floor of Parliament—following a CCTV footage—that the raid was real and was led by Richard Jakpa, Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat.

According to the former government spokesperson, this revelation proves that the Special Prosecutor lacks the integrity and competence to remain in office.

“The OSP publicly told Ghanaians that his intelligence indicated the raid on Ken Ofori-Atta’s residence was staged. He didn’t say it was speculation. He was emphatic that the raid was staged or, at best, an impostor action meant to cause disaffection for him. The Special Prosecutor has told such a big lie, which has gone viral around the world, even prompting the BBC to publish this falsehood.

“A fugitive tag has been placed on Ken Ofori-Atta when he has not been charged, his bill of indictment has not been seen, yet he is all over international media. Meanwhile, the Special Prosecutor has not apologized for peddling falsehoods after seeing footage proving that the raid was not staged,” she stated in an interview on Accra-based Peace FM.

“For the Special Prosecutor to remain silent and still have the audacity to continue exercising authority is just laughable. It is unbelievable. Based on his so-called intelligence and the intelligence team that misled him into believing the raid was staged, he should have resigned immediately after watching the footage,” she added.
