NUGS to protest against WAEC over withheld, canceled WASSCE results

The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has officially informed the Greater Accra Regional Police Command of its intention to stage a protest against the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

The demonstration, set for Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at 9:00 AM at Obra Spot, Circle, Accra, aims to challenge WAEC’s decision to withhold and cancel the results of some students who sat for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

According to NUGS, the affected students have been unfairly treated, and the uncertainty surrounding their results could jeopardize their academic futures. The union is calling on WAEC to be transparent and fair in its handling of examination results to ensure that students are not wrongfully penalized.

The protest is expected to attract not only students but also parents and other concerned stakeholders, all demanding immediate action from WAEC. Meanwhile, some aggrieved parents and students have taken legal action against WAEC, challenging the decision to withhold results. However, WAEC has secured a stay of execution on a court ruling that had initially ordered the release of the affected results.

As tensions rise, NUGS remains firm in its demand for fairness, vowing to continue the fight until the students receive justice.
