Introduction:
On February 4, 2025, during a parliamentary session, an unidentified member of the Minority side directed a derogatory remark at Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, referring to her as the “daughter of a murderer.” This comment was made while Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings sought permission to speak, but the Speaker overlooked her and allowed Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin to continue.

Incident Details:
The remark was made amidst heated discussions on the 60th anniversary of the death of Joseph Boakye Danquah. Tensions escalated when Tamale Central MP, Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, challenged the praises from the Minority regarding JB Danquah’s legacy. The exchange grew intense, leading to the offensive remark directed at Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings.

Identification of the Speaker:
It has emerged that Samuel Abu Jinapor, the Member of Parliament for Damongo, was identified as the person who made the remark. Abu Jinapor has denied making the comment, describing it as “absolutely false” and stating that he holds the late former President Jerry John Rawlings and his family in high regard.

Character Overview:
Dr. ZANETOR AGYEMAN-RAWLINGS
Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings is a medical doctor, politician, and humanitarian. She is the eldest daughter of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings and former first lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings. Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings has a strong commitment to healthcare and community well-being. She has worked extensively in general practice and family medicine, and has been involved in various humanitarian efforts, including providing relief to disaster victims and improving sanitation in Ghana. As a Member of Parliament for the Korle Klottey constituency, she focuses on inclusivity, empowerment, and youth development.

SAMUEL ABU JINAPOR
Samuel Abu Jinapor is a lawyer and politician. He is a member of the New Patriotic Party and serves as the Member of Parliament for the Damongo Constituency. Jinapor has a background in law and has held various positions, including Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Operations at the Office of the President. He is currently the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources and is known for his dedication to sustainable development and environmental advocacy. Jinapor is recognized for his quick thinking, oratory skills, and his commitment to public service.

Protestations:
The people of Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings’ constituency and the Anlo chieftaincy have expressed strong disapproval of the remark made in Parliament. They have emphasized the need for Parliament to take serious action to redeem its image and uphold the dignity of the institution.

Recommendations:
1. Investigation: The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kinsford Bagbin, should initiate a thorough investigation to identify the culprit responsible for the remark.

2. Accountability: The identified individual should be named and shamed to uphold the dignity and honor of the August House of Parliament.

3. Preventive Measures: Proactive measures should be implemented to prevent similar occurrences in the future, advocating for a culture of unity and civility in Parliament.

4. Ethical Standards: Maintaining high ethical standards is crucial in preserving public trust in Parliament. Personal attacks on members should not be tolerated.

Message to Alexander Afenyo-Markin:
Alexander Afenyo-Markin, your already damaged reputation is at stake. This is an opportunity for you to help unravel the truth and save your own image and personal integrity. Your proactive involvement in addressing this issue will not only contribute to resolving the matter but also restore confidence in your leadership.

Warning to Samuel Abu Jinapor:
Samuel Abu Jinapor, this is a critical juncture for your political career. It is imperative that you do not further jeopardize your reputation by denying involvement in the incident. Every investigative effort will be made to uncover the truth, including the use of forensic analysis and interrogation devices. Owning up to your actions and issuing a sincere apology to Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings and the people of Ghana is essential for maintaining integrity and ensuring peace. Failing to do so will not only damage your personal standing but also undermine the credibility of Parliament.

Conclusion:
The incident has sparked significant controversy and debate, highlighting the need for accountability and respectful discourse in Parliament. The strong protestations from Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings’ constituency and the Anlo chieftaincy underscore the urgency of addressing this issue to restore the integrity and honor of the August House of Parliament. It is imperative that Parliament takes serious action to redeem its image and maintain public trust.

Quote from Chinua Achebe:
“One of the truest tests of integrity is its blunt refusal to be compromised.”

– This quote highlights the essence of integrity, emphasizing that true integrity is unyielding and steadfast. It suggests that a person’s character is truly tested when they face temptations or pressures to compromise their values. Holding firm to one’s principles, despite challenges, is the ultimate demonstration of integrity. It encourages individuals to remain honest and honorable, even in difficult situations.

Fusaini Isah’s Dogomba Wise Proverb:
“A house divided against itself cannot stand.”

– This proverb signifies the importance of unity and harmony within a group, be it a family, community, or organization. It warns that internal conflicts and divisions can lead to the downfall of the entire group. When members are united, they can face challenges and thrive; but when they are divided, their collective strength diminishes, making them vulnerable to failure. It serves as a reminder that working together and maintaining solidarity is crucial for success and stability.

Biblical Quotation:
“But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.” – Genesis 4:7 (NIV)

– This biblical verse addresses the concept of moral responsibility and self-control. It implies that negative forces (represented by sin) are always present and waiting for an opportunity to take over one’s actions. However, individuals have the power and duty to resist these temptations and make righteous choices. It encourages personal accountability and the importance of choosing to do what is right, even when faced with temptations or challenges.

These quotes collectively underscore the values of integrity, unity, and moral responsibility, each offering timeless wisdom and guidance for personal and collective conduct.
