The Minister of Environment, Science, and Technology (MEST) and Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Murtala Mohammed, has eulogized the Member of Parliament for Okaikoi Central, Patrick Yaw Boamah, for playing a critical role in his legal journey.

Speaking in an interview on Channel 1 TV, Murtala Mohammed revealed that his colleague legislator, beyond offering words of encouragement, went as far as purchasing his admission forms to study law.

According to the outspoken lawmaker, he is eternally grateful to his colleague from the other political divide for this push, which has enabled him to acquire legal knowledge for his future career in academia after quitting politics.

“I didn’t study law to practice. Frankly, it was Honourable Patrick Boamah who insisted that I should do law. He even bought the admission forms. Yes, he insisted that I should study law. He is a very good friend of mine. So, I did, and my intention was to pursue it for academic purposes. I may do an LLM, as I want to end up in academia. Everything I do is based on the belief that politics is something I do for now, but with time, I would like to end up in academia. Nothing pleases me more than teaching,” Murtala Mohammed said.

This underscores the fact that, beyond often public disagreements, many politicians are good friends and seek each other’s interests.

Murtala Mohammed graduated from Mountcrest University with an LLB in 2016.

Once a student leader, he served as the Secretary-General of the All-African Students Union.

‘I never planned to study law, but Patrick Boamah insisted—and even went as far as buying me the forms to enroll. Today, I’m grateful for his push.’– Environment Minister, Ibrahim Murtala, on the role the MP for Okaikwei Central played in his legal journey.
