President Mahama holds first cabinet meeting, expresses confidence in team’s ability to reset Ghana

President John Dramani Mahama has expressed strong confidence in his newly appointed cabinet, holding his first official meeting with ministers since assuming office.

The cabinet meeting took place on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at the Golden Jubilee House in Accra, setting the stage for regular policy discussions in line with constitutional requirements.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Spokesperson to the President, provided insights into the meeting, emphasizing that the 19-member cabinet, chaired by President Mahama, will convene frequently to review and implement the policies of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC). He explained that the inaugural session served as an introduction to the cabinet, outlining operational guidelines and expectations.

Security matters featured prominently in the discussions, with Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak and Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah briefing the cabinet on the country’s security situation. They assured members that Ghana remains secure and has the capability to counter any external threats.

The meeting also covered economic issues, with Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson and veteran politician Goosie Tanoh providing updates on the country’s financial outlook and the administration’s 24-hour economic policy. According to Kwakye Ofosu, despite inheriting a struggling economy, Dr. Ato Forson’s presentation indicated that Ghana is on course for a steady recovery.

President Mahama reportedly expressed confidence in his team’s ability to navigate the challenges ahead and drive economic growth. His administration remains committed to implementing strategies that will lead to a turnaround and set the country on a path to prosperity.

In the coming days, President Mahama is expected to address Parliament on the current state of the economy, ahead of the Economic Conference scheduled for March 3 and 4. The conference will bring together industry leaders and economic experts to deliberate on solutions to Ghana’s economic challenges.
