Former Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu has cautioned President John Dramani Mahama about the dangers of surrounding himself with sycophants, referencing Cadman Mills’ past warning about blind loyalty within the government.

“When Cadman Mills spoke against sycophancy, those around you attacked him.

“But he was right. The people around you will praise you into failure if you are not careful,” Amidu warned.

He further urged Mahama to focus on real governance and avoid repeating the mistakes of past leaders who used similar rhetoric to justify borrowing from China or opting for HIPC relief.

“Ghanaians put their trust in you to fix the problems, not to prepare them for another loan or bailout. Walk your pre-election can-do talk!” Amidu concluded.

Reacting to Mahama’s recent claim that Ghana is an “economic crime scene,” Amidu dismissed it as a worn-out excuse, stating that every administration since 2001 has used the same rhetoric to justify borrowing and tough economic decisions.

“The electorate is not foolish, Mr. President. We voted for action, not excuses,” Amidu emphasized.

“Every government under the 1992 Constitution has blamed its predecessor. But the real question is: what are you doing differently?”
