Lydia Akanvariba, Minister of State-designate for Public Sector Reforms and Member of Parliament for Tempane, has committed to bolstering the public sector’s current framework in order to better align it with government priorities and increase efficiency.
Ms. Akanvariba gave this assurance during her appearance before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Monday, February 24, where she outlined plans for the ministry, pledging to expand on the foundation established by the past government.
“I am going to that ministry to continue the structures that are already there to go with government policy and to make sure that the areas that need to be strengthened are strengthened,” she told the Committee.
The nominee also acknowledged ongoing improvements, stating that while some have yielded results, others are yet to be completed.
The lawmaker expressed her commitment to closing these gaps and making the public sector more efficient.
Her vetting comes at a time when calls for improved accountability and efficiency in the public sector continue to grow, especially on the back of the recent 10% increment in base pay.
