ANAQ foundation provides meals to street children in Kumasi

The ANAQ Foundation, in partnership with Super Ladies, served meals to over 1,000 street children in Kumasi on Valentine’s Day.

This initiative aimed to offer care and support to vulnerable children, particularly on a day traditionally dedicated to love and kindness.

The organisations distributed food at key locations, including the Amakom and Aful-Nkwanta traffic light areas, assisting both children and their mothers in need.

Ama Nyarko Attafuah-Quainoo, President of the ANAQ Foundation, highlighted the importance of providing meals to children who are often forced to beg on the streets due to hunger.

She explained that, instead of spending their limited resources on themselves, the women involved in the initiative chose to share with those in greater need. “Today, we are spreading love to the street children,” she said.

Mrs Attafuah-Quainoo also expressed concern about the lack of effective solutions from authorities to address the issue of street children in the country.

She stressed that authorities must take immediate action to ensure these children do not grow up without access to education. “This is a national security issue. If we don’t intervene, by the time they are 15 or 16, they may turn to crime, believing society has failed them,” she warned.

While recognising the current inaction from the authorities, she emphasised the importance of continuing to provide support to these children, particularly on special occasions like Valentine’s Day, and called for greater public support to sustain these philanthropic efforts.

The ANAQ Foundation is a nonprofit organisation committed to raising awareness about sickle cell disease and maternal health, while Super Ladies focuses on empowering vulnerable women through skills training and supporting women-led businesses in Ghana.
