GhIE holds 2025 Conference and AGM in Accra

The Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE) is holding its 2025 Engineering Conference and Annual General Meeting (AGM) from 24th March, 2025 through to 29th March, 2025, in Accra.

According to the Ag. Executive Director of GhIE, Ing. Samuel Magnus Asiedu, the Youth in Engineering Forum was held at the Engineering Centre on Monday morning, 24th March, whilst the Engineering Craftsmen Forum was held in the afternoon on the same day. The Institution also welcomed its International Delegates at the Engineers Centre on Monday evening, 24th March, 2025.

The Opening Ceremony took place on Tuesday, 25th March, 2025 at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra.

The 55th AGM will be held on Thursday morning, 27th March, 2025 at the Engineering Centre, Roman Ridge, Accra.

In the evening of Thursday, 27th March, 2025 at exactly 6pm, the Presidential Investiture to hand over the mantle of the Presidency of GhIE from Ing. Kwabena Bempong to the President-Elect, Ing. Ludwig Hesse, will be held at the Engineering Centre.

The conference will be climaxed with a Banquet/Dinner Dance on Friday evening, 28th March, 2025 at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel, where the Engineering Excellence Awards will be held to award deserving Engineering Professionals, Engineering Technologists, Craftsmen, Engineering organizations, Engineering students and schools who have distinguished themselves in the year under review.

On Saturday morning, 29th March, 2025, there will be golf tournament to keep members fit after a week-long conference activity.

Speaking to the media of his expectation of the upcoming conference, the President of GhIE, Ing. Kwabena Bempong said, the conference is expected to be attended by World leaders in the Engineering Profession from all walks of life, with the President of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO), Federation of African Engineering Organizations (FAEO), West African Federation of Engineering Organizations (WAFEO), all expected to attend.

The President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama and the sector ministers are also expected to grace the opening ceremony on Tuesday, 25th March, 2025 at the Movenpick Ambassador hotel.

The theme for the conference: “Urbanization and Smart Cities: Engineering, the Future of Ghana”. Explaining the theme for the conference, Ing. Bempong said, it has been carefully chosen to reflect the current state of Urbanization and how Smart City concepts could be tapped to transform Ghana. There will be technical presentation of papers on the conference sub-themes, panel discussion with Women in Engineering in focus and networking opportunities.

The expected foreign engineering partners attending the conference are Nigerian Society of Engineers, Sierra Leone Institution of Engineers, Engineering Society of Liberia, Alliance Consulting Engineers (Liberia), World Council of Civil Engineers, Institution of Engineers Kenya, Institution of Engineers Rwanda. Ordre des Ingénieurs en Génie Civil du Burkina Faso and many more.

Ing. Samuel Magnus Asiedu reminded all engineering practitioners registered under GhIE that 9 Continuous Professional Development (CPD) points will be credited to any GhIE member who registers and attends the Conference this year.

The Annual GhIE Conference and AGM is a week set aside annually to bring together all Professional Engineers, Professional Engineering Technologists, Engineering Technicians and Engineering Craftsmen including affiliates from diverse engineering backgrounds to share ideas and knowledge on the conference theme.

The conference also serves as an opportunity for Engineering Practitioners and affiliates from diverse backgrounds to network for collaborations, create awareness on engineering in the country, and for the professional body to take decisions at AGM.
