Dear critical reader, one of the key factors that have led to some regimes in Ghana’s 4th Republic unraveling is that criticism-averse appointees with brittle egos suddenly become obsessed with genuinely patriotic individuals who criticize them. Yet, such thin-skinned appointees are only critiqued because our passionate love for Mother Ghana prevents us from remaining silent and turning a blind eye to pernicious actions and nation-wrecking inactions by said appointees. That’s the only reason why we opt to speak truth to power publicly, criticizing errant appointees – nothing more, nothing less. Full stop. Yoooooooooo…
Unfortunately, this ineptitude was manifested during the Mahama 1.0 era. Sadly, we are beginning to see glimmers of that metaphorical slippery slope to disaster yet again, clearly indicating it might be happening again in the Mahama 2.0 era. Yooooooooo…
That said, with the greatest respect, my humble free advice to the Deputy Chief of Staff at the presidency, Mr. Stan Dogbe, is that he must not even dream of interfering with the ongoing investigation into the galamsey conspirators who connived to encroach on part of my family’s 14-square-mile freehold upland evergreen rainforest property in the Akyem Juaso section of the Atewa Range recently, to mine gold and dig a gargantuan mining pit spanning several football fields. Those criminals also happen to have engaged in felling trees illegally for chainsaw bushcut lumber production.
Furthermore, my observation is that each time the National Democratic Congress (NDC) comes to power again, after a long period in the political wilderness, incidents of galamsey and illegal chainsaw bushcut lumber production on my family’s freehold 14-square-mile Akyem Juaso biodiversity-rich upland evergreen forest property escalate. This is despite the fact that some of us, without any prompting from the party’s hierarchy, and not expecting any financial reward for so doing, fought hard to enable the NDC to return to power again – by focusing on the unbridled high-level state-capture rent-seeking crony capitalist corruption that characterises New Patriotic Party (NPP) administrations in our published opinion pieces.
At the very least, my many hard-hitting op-eds condemning the arrogant and insufferable Akyem Mafia contributed in a small way to the landslide victory chalked by the NDC during the December 2024 election cycle. Does it not follow a priori that I don’t therefore deserve such needless aggravation from NDC apparatchiks? Especially when that NDC apparatchik happens to be Stan Dogbe – who should take his tanks off my lawn: to use a memorable phrase from the era of then-British Prime Minister Harold Wilson, who famously publicly scolded trade union leader Hugh Scanlon with it.
Can a word to the wise really suffice, anaaa, in this particular instance, Ghanafuor? Yooooooooooo…
