The Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, Dr Kingsley Agyemang, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with De Montfort University (DMU) in Leicester, United Kingdom, aimed at expanding academic and professional development opportunities for students and educators in his constituency.

The strategic agreement, signed in collaboration with the Municipal Director of Education, formalises a partnership between the UK-based institution and educational stakeholders in Abuakwa South.

The MoU outlines key areas of cooperation, including Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for teachers, postgraduate education pathways, and enhanced research collaboration.

Speaking at the signing ceremony on Tuesday, 8th July, Dr Agyemang described the initiative as “a major milestone in strengthening UK-Ghana educational ties,” adding that the agreement opens a gateway for students in his constituency to access world-class academic resources and learning environments.

“This partnership offers our students new avenues to achieve international academic excellence, while equipping our educators with modern skills and training to better serve the next generation,” he remarked.

Under the agreement, beneficiaries in Abuakwa South will have access to academic exchange programmes, collaborative research projects, faculty development schemes, and scholarship opportunities, ensuring direct and long-term impact on both student performance and teacher capacity.

As a staunch advocate for education, Dr Agyemang views the partnership as an embodiment of his broader vision to position education as a cornerstone for sustainable development within Abuakwa South.

Representatives from De Montfort University welcomed the MoU as a significant step in expanding their academic engagement in Ghana.

They lauded the initiative as a testament to the shared commitment to educational advancement and global collaboration.
