NPP heading for doom if Bawumia is changed as flagbearer - Victor Osei-Poku

A member of the Ashanti Regional Communications Team of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Victor Osei-Poku, has cautioned that any attempt by the party to replace Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as its flagbearer could spell political disaster in the 2028 general elections.

According to him, Dr. Bawumia remains the most viable and marketable candidate to lead the party back to power, adding that his removal would jeopardise the party’s chances.

“Dr. Bawumia is currently the best candidate to lead the party to victory in the next general elections,” he said.

Osei-Poku, who previously served as the communications officer for the Nsuta Kwamang Beposo constituency, made these remarks in an interview on Monday, July 14, 2025.

He stressed that with the high stakes surrounding the 2028 elections, the NPP needs a strong and relatable figure who already has significant support among the electorate.

He argued that Dr. Bawumia has built considerable momentum with voters across the country and warned that any internal move to replace him would disrupt the party’s rebuilding efforts.

He appealed to NPP members to rally behind Dr. Bawumia, maintain party unity, and focus on securing victory in 2028.
