Accra Lions are teetering on the edge of relegation from the Ghana Premier League following a heavy 3-1 defeat to Accra Hearts of Oak on Friday at Accra Sports Stadium.

The loss leaves Lions in 16th place on the league table with 35 points, two points behind Young Apostles (37), Basake Holy Stars (37), and Karela United (38), who have yet to play their matchday 32 fixtures.

Hearts took the lead when Enoch Asubonteng scored his first goal of the season with a powerful shot after just 12 minutes.

However, their comeback hopes were dashed when Hearts scored two important goals in less than 10 minutes.

Kwesi Asmah scored the first of the quickfire double in the 81st minute to clinch his first goal after 13 appearances.

Hamza Issah sealed the win with his fifth goal of the season in the 90th minute after the Lions defenders failed to deal with a long ball from Hearts of Oak shoot stopper Benjamin Asare.

The win means the Accra giants are now unbeaten in their last five league outings( three wins, two draws) and they would be hoping to build on their good momentum as the season nears it business point.

Despite the win, Hearts of Oak remain in 5th place with 52 points, while Lions remain in the relegation zone with just two games to end the current campaign.
