The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Achiase Municipal Assembly in the Eastern Region, Mr. Samuel Brako, has formally appealed to the Chief of Army Staff, Major General L.K. Gbetanu, to allocate at least 20 military recruitment slots annually to youth from the Achiase District.

The appeal was made during the Army Chief’s official visit to the Achiase Jungle Warfare School, also known as the Seth Anthony Barracks.

The visit brought together military officials, traditional leaders, and local authorities, underscoring the longstanding bond between the Ghana Armed Forces and the Achiase community.

Mr. Brako highlighted the community’s historic contribution to national development, recalling that the land for the Jungle Warfare School was freely given by the people of Achiase in 1976 without compensation or any formal agreement.

He noted that the gesture was made in good faith and in the national interest, with the community remaining a loyal supporter of the military ever since.

According to the DCE, the proposed recruitment slots would not only offer valuable employment opportunities to local youth but also serve as a symbolic recognition of the community’s enduring sacrifice and support.

“This is a request made in good faith and for the benefit of the youth,” Mr. Brako said. “It is also a way to strengthen the partnership between the Ghana Armed Forces and the people of Achiase.”

He emphasized that the proposed enlistment opportunities would be distributed fairly across all towns in the Achiase District, with no bias toward political affiliation.

Mr. Brako added that while the appeal was initially made verbally during the visit, a formal written request would be submitted to the office of the Chief of Army Staff in the coming days.

He expressed optimism that the army leadership would respond positively and work toward implementing the proposal.

Major General Gbetanu reportedly received the request warmly, describing it as “a call in the right direction.”

Mr. Brako concluded by reaffirming his commitment to advocating for the welfare of the youth and fostering deeper collaboration between the military and the local community for mutual development.
