ADB celebrates 60 years with health walk, eyes top 3 spot in Ghana’s banking sector

The Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) has organised a health and fitness walk as part of its 60th anniversary celebrations. The exercise took place at the Aviation Social Centre in Accra. The event brought together staff, management, and stakeholders for a morning of fitness and bonding, under the tagline “ADB Beyond Banking.”

The initiative is aimed at promoting wellness among employees while strengthening team cohesion as the bank marks six decades of operations in Ghana.

Speaking to journalists after the walk, Managing Director of ADB, Edward Ato Sarpong, reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to creating a more customer-focused environment. He revealed that the bank is implementing three key strategic actions designed to drive deeper engagement with clients and improve overall service delivery.

Managing Director of ADB, Edward Ato Sarpong

“Three things I’ll say. Number one, we have just introduced our excellence culture so we are changing our culture to serve the customers better. Number two, we have just launched our digital transformation programme and the digital transformation programme is intended to put the bank in the palm of all our customers so they can do whatever they want to do just by the click on their phone. The third thing is that we are one of the most liquid banks in Ghana and so we are introducing a number of products. All is intended to work with the customers. We don’t want to leave the customers alone. What we have decided as a philosophy is to work with the customers,” Mr. Sarpong noted.

He added that ADB is setting its sights on becoming one of the top three banks in Ghana, a move that signals the bank’s ambition to scale up its operations and impact.

According to him, “We are looking to be among the top three banks in Ghana. That’s our vision and we are working aggressively at it. So in the next three years we will be in the top three banks in Ghana. We intend to be the most profitable bank in Ghana and we are working at it.”

The health walk is the one of several activities lined up to mark ADB’s 60th anniversary. The bank, which has played a critical role in financing Ghana’s agriculture sector since its inception, is using the celebration to reflect on its journey while charting a bold path forward.
