A member of the New Patriotic Party, (NPP) communication team, Nana Kwadwo Agyei Yeboah better known as Nana Kay has confirmed the arrest of Alfred Ababio Kumi, also known as Adenta Kumi, in what he described as a raid carried out by armed state operatives.

Speaking to the Accra-based Okay FM on Friday, May 23, 2025, the NPP communicator disclosed that the arrest happened in the early hours of Friday, May 23, 2025.

“We will not sit aloof and watch such injustices happen in this country. When you arrest one of us from the NPP, you will have to arrest us all.

“The General Secretary, the National Chairman of the NPP and his lawyers are heading to the NIB office to ascertain the matter,” he said.

In a related development, the Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, Vincent Ekow Assafuah revealed in a Facebook post on Friday morning, that Kumi had been picked up about three hours earlier from his residence by eight armed men believed to be operatives of the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB).

Hours before his arrest on Friday, May 23, 2025, Alfred Kumi reacted to a video shared by Godwin Edudzi Tamaklo, the acting Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority, purportedly showing the secret meeting between the justices on the committee and a lawyer of one of the people who petitioned for Chief Justice Torkornoo’s removal, he based his petition on.

In a post shared on X, on May 22, 2025, Alfred Kumi indicated that he was under threat following the release. He hinted that he had more videos of the so-called secret meeting.

He went on to caution security officials against any attempt to arrest him because he petitioned the president on the matter and not the officials.

“I said it that if I have to run for my life, someone will release the video! There are more videos, please any state agency that does not allow the president @JDMahama to respond to the petition, but rather want to pick me up, will cause more harm to our state than picking me.

“I petitioned the president, not BNI or national security. Leave me the hell alone!!” he wrote on X.
