Assistant Director of Prisons (ADP) Samuel Asiedu, the Officer in Charge of the Ahinsan Settlement Camp Prison in the Ashanti region, was in a colourful and well attended event on Friday, 23rd April 2025, Pulled-Out of the Ghana Prisons Service after a meritorious 34 years 8mths of dutiful service to Ghana, and the United Nations.
Career History
A young and vibrant Samuel Asiedu was recruited into the Ghana Prisons Service in March, 1991 as a Recruit Officer of Course 93 and after going through the mandatory 6 months Regimental training he started his service with the Navrongo Central Prison. After years of adding up to his academic laurels, he was enlisted into the Officer Cadet Intake 20 and was commissioned as an Assistant Superintendent of Prisons (ASP) in 2008.
In the year 2012, he had the opportunity to be part of a UN Mission assignment in the Democratic Republic of Congo as a Government Provided Person -Corrections Advisor and Mentor.
ADP Asiedu served at the Navrongo Central Prison, Prisons Headquarters, Kumasi Central Prison, and the Ahinsan Settlement Camp Prison where he finally hanged his boots.
The University of Ghana Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Political Science graduate rose through the ranks and finally got promoted to the enviable rank of an Assistant Director of Prisons.

The Director General of Prisons, Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie Esq in a speech and a citation read on her behalf by Director of Prisons in-charge of Agriculture, Mr. Kwaku Ali Ababio, she appreciated the retiree’s exemplary service and innovation. “The Directorate of the noble service appreciates your diligent service and the massive change you brought to the Ahinsan Prison”, she said.
The Ashanti Regional Commander, Deputy Director of Prisons (DDP) James B. Mwinyelle (ING) presented a citation on behalf of the region and lauded ADP Asiedu for his dedication to the service and the region.

The colourful regimental event was heavily graced by the Adansi North District Security Council members, Cadet Intake mates, Recruit Course mates, the Retired Prison Officers Association, Ashanti region (REPOA), Prison Officers Wives Association (PROWA), Family, Friends.
Other dignitaries were Officers in Charge of the Manhyia Local Prison, Obuasi Local Prison, Kumasi Female Prison, Hiawa Camp Prison, the Ejura Settlement Camp Prison, other Senior Prison Officers, and the staff of the Ahinsan Settlement Camp Prison.
The Prisons Regimental Band Kumasi, led by Drum Major Francis Elikem Dzradosi and Band Leader, Corporal Kenneth Osikafo Agyei took charge of the parade commanded by ASP Charles Opoku.
