Member of Parliament for Mpraeso, Davis Ansah Opoku, has jumped to the defense of former Dome Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Adwoa Safo, who has been referred to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Disciplinary Committee.
In a heartfelt post on social media, Opoku Ansah acknowledged that Adwoa Safo endured intense criticism during her time in the 8th Parliament, with many, including himself, judging her harshly.
“I went on radio and attacked you, not knowing the full weight of what you were going through as a mother and as a person,” he confessed.
Davis Opoku Ansah, affectionately called OPK, emphasized that with reflection, he now realizes they were wrong to have treated Adwoa Safo that way.
He urged the NPP leadership to exercise sensitivity and fairness in handling the matter, rather than seeking punishment.
“Leadership must not see this as an opportunity for punishment but as a call for engagement. Instead of coercion, we must seek understanding. Instead of alienation, we must draw closer,” he stressed.
Opoku Ansah also noted that Adwoa Safo does not trust Prof Oquaye’s committee, and that concern must be respected.
He advocated for the party to provide an avenue for her to air her concerns, rather than pushing her to the corner.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has taken disciplinary action against former Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, for allegedly breaching party directives.
In a statement signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong on Thursday, March 20, the party stated that Adwoa Safo’s comments on Joy News’ Pulse Show were “clear contravention” of a directive issued to all party members to cease discussing matters that create disaffection within the party in the media.
According to Justin Kodua, the directive explicitly states that all party members must cease discussing party issues that create unrest, negativism, and disaffection in the media and other related platforms.
“The directive explicitly states that all party members must cease discussing party issues that create unrest, negativism and disaffection in the media and other related platforms,” the statement read.
The party views Adwoa Safo’s actions as not only a disregard for the directive but also an undermining of the party’s efforts to rebuild and move forward.
