Majority Leader and MP for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga, has taken a swipe at Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, accusing him of dishonesty over his promise to produce former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
In February, the Effutu MP assured Parliament that he would speak to Mr. Ofori-Atta to return after the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) first declared him a wanted fugitive for evading criminal investigations.
However, on Monday, June 2, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng again declared the former minister a wanted fugitive, citing his continued failure to honour invitations from the OSP.
Reacting on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday, Mr. Ayariga said the Minority Leader’s failure to deliver on his promises makes him untrustworthy in the eyes of the House.
“He promised this House that he would bring Ken Ofori-Atta in May. We are in June, yet he has not produced him. Mr. Speaker, he should no longer be taken seriously in this House. When he makes promises, he does not fulfil them,” Ayariga asserted.
He also reminded the House of a previous unfulfilled promise by Afenyo-Markin to lead his caucus in an overnight protest at the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) over the detention of NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Bosiako popuarly known as Chairman Wontumi.
“When we make promises, let’s keep them. Mr. Speaker, when he promised to sleep at EOCO… the man talking about people not fulfilling promises. You promised to sleep at EOCO and left at 10 p.m.,” Ayariga mocked.
