‘Afenyo-Markin is now our campaign manager, everything he does favours the NDC’

Asiedu Nketiah (R) says the NPP got it wrong by making Afenyo-Markin (L) its leader in Parliament Asiedu Nketiah (R) says the NPP got it wrong by making Afenyo-Markin (L) its leader in Parliament

The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has taken a swipe at the Minority Leader, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, over his actions in Parliament.

According to him, all the actions of the Minority Leader, who is also the Member of Parliament for Effutu, have been making the NDC look good in the eyes of the public.

He said that Afenyo-Markin has effectively made himself the campaign manager of the NDC for the upcoming 2028 election through his actions.

“Now, Afenyo-Markin has become the campaign manager of the NDC. So, we are praying that nobody will change him. He should be there (as Minority Leader) till the next election because he will help us win.

“All his actions are helping the course of the NDC while sinking the NPP. And so, we see him as our campaign manager. We are praying that they will keep him in his position,” he said in the Twi dialect in a recent interview shared on X on July 29, 2025.

Asiedu Nketiah asserted that the NPP made a huge mistake when it replaced Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu with Afenyo-Markin as its leader in Parliament in the run-up to the 2024 election.

He said that the NPP changed their leaders in the House because of a similar move by the NDC, but unlike the changes made by his side, the opposition NPP’s decision was detrimental.

“If you want to copy something, the conditions must be identical, so that after copying, you will get similar results. If your conditions are different, you must consult before copying; otherwise, you may achieve different results.

“For instance, Osei Kyei-Mensah, the former NPP Majority Leader, has come out to say that he was removed because we reshuffled our leaders. We changed our leaders because we identified some challenges; they copied it, and their change was for the worse,” he said.
