Agona Abodom bowed out of Nyakrom Traditional Council after years of chieftaincy dispute

The Agona Abodom community has installed a new substantive chief under the stool name Nana Osam Dadzie Obrempong XI, officially ending a 40-year chieftaincy impasse and declaring its withdrawal from the Nyakrom Traditional Council, led by Okofo Katakyie Nyaku Eku X.

Announcing the community’s decision, Nana Osam Dadzie Obrempong XI explained that the decades-long dispute over rightful succession following the death of Nana Osam Dadzie X had crippled both social cohesion and development efforts in the area.

“Agona Abodom has gotten a substantive Chief. The simple message is that we have withdrawn our Membership from Nyakrom Traditional Council,” he declared.

He stated that the prolonged leadership vacuum severely hampered progress in the community, leading to stagnation in infrastructure, public services, and human development.

“As at now we (Nananom) in Agona Abodom are yet to decide the next action, whether or not to rejoin Nyakrom Traditional Council or find somewhere else to be under its jurisdiction as a Traditional Council,” he noted.

Describing the Nyakrom Traditional Council as having exhibited a longstanding bias against Agona Abodom, the newly installed chief emphasised the community’s resolve to chart its own path forward.

“Nyakrom Traditional Council had been biased towards Agona Abodom and the time is now for us to be self-dependent. I want to use this opportunity to encourage Agona Abodom citizens, both home and abroad to contribute their quota towards the redevelopment of our community.

“The Chieftaincy dispute affected our livelihood and it is time to rebuild our once vibrant Community,” Nana Osam Dadzie stressed.

The Queen Mother of Agona Abodom, Nana Ohenemaa Yaa Nyakoa Osam Dadzie Obrempong VI, expressed deep appreciation to the residents for their support during the tumultuous period and reaffirmed her dedication to advancing the community’s development agenda.

She also made a heartfelt appeal to the Agona West Municipal Assembly to fast-track the completion of the local market center, which she said would significantly enhance economic activity and uplift livelihoods within the area.
