Agona East District Assembly, led by its DCE, Hon Samuel Oscar Mensah last Tuesday joined Christians and Muslims drawn from the District to mark this year’s National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving.
The event which took place in different locations attracted a high volume of attendance from all religious groups at Agona Nsaba Church of Pentecost and Agona Nsaba Central Mosque, respectively.
Prayers were said for peace and stability of the country as well as coexistence with each other regardless of differences in tribal, religious and political affiliations.
In his address, Hon Samuel Oscar Mensah thanked His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana, for the institution of the event to thank God for his blessings on Ghana.
“We have gathered here to observe the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving, unity in our quest for national prosperity under the theme “Reflect, Reset and Renewal for National Prosperity” we have come from diverse backgrounds and our collective purpose is to seek divine guidance and blessings for our District and Nation at large.
“Nananom, the Clergy and all gathered here, if we take a moment to reflect on Ghana’s journey since Independence, we would realise that we have made significant strides in democracy, economic growth and peace-building.
“However, we can acknowledge that challenges still persist, including corruption, youth unemployment, economic hardship, among others. Let us acknowledge our struggles and celebrate our victories, drawing valuable lessons to shape our future,” Hon Samuel Oscar Mensah stressed.
The Agona East DCE further stated ” In Resetting our country, we should align our values with God’s standards, upholding justice, righteousness and integrity. We must strive for fairness in governance, economy and opportunities, ensuring no citizen is left behind.
“This requires national repentance, turning away from corruption, greed and selflessness. To ensure National Prosperity, we must prioritise environmental stewardship, that is protecting and preserving God’s creation for future generations.
“We must nurture the younger generation with godly principles, equipping them to lead with integrity and vision. As leaders, we should sustain ethical leadership by governing with humility and wisdom, seeking divine direction in our decision-making,” Hon Oscar Mensah noted.
“Finally, let us commit to national transformation by reflecting on and resetting our mindset and attitude for the sake of national development.
“May God grant us the wisdom, courage and vision to govern and live in a manner that promotes justice, peace and prosperity for all. May we continue to pray for our nation’s unity and peace, seeking God’s favour and blessings,” the DCE concluded.
Present were the Clergy from the local Council of Christian Churches and Imams from Agona East Muslim Community.
