The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Agona West Constituency has begun efforts to reorganize and unify its base, with the ultimate goal of reclaiming political power in the 2028 general elections.
As part of these efforts, the party has cut sod for the construction of an ultramodern office in Agona Nyakrom to serve electoral areas outside the Agona Swedru township.
Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, Constituency Chairman Alhaji Gibrine Tanko Yoye emphasized the importance of unity and reconciliation within the party.
“We are working assiduously to bring back all party members who distanced themselves for one or two reasons leading to the 2024 defeat to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
“Though we lost both Presidential and Parliamentary Elections, nevertheless, we are working around the clock to bring everybody on board for the tasks ahead.
“The Party is at a crossroad, this is not the time for Blame Game, we must all put our hands on deck for the needed numbers and strength to achieve our set target,” he said.
Alhaji Yoye explained that the newly planned office is intended to improve the party’s operational efficiency in Agona Nyakrom and its surrounding areas, reducing the logistical burden on members outside the Swedru enclave.
“This significant event marks a milestone in our journey towards progress and development.
“The theme: ‘Laying the Foundation for Victory: Strengthening Our Base, Securing Our Future’ was carefully chosen to keep us together with unity of purpose for the task ahead of us towards the 2028 General Elections.
“Agona Swedru has 16 Electoral Areas out of the 31 in the Constituency. This is the right time to strengthen our base to facilitate party activities within Agona Nyakrom enclave and also reduce cost of transportation to and from the polling stations outside Agona Swedru.
“I want to appeal for all and sundry to join the Leadership in Agona West Constituency in its quest to ensure total victory for the NPP in 2028. Let cool heads prevail,” he urged.
Research and Elections Officer for the constituency, Nana Kwame Agyei, revealed that the upcoming facility would include administrative offices and a conference room to support party activities.
Echoing the call for unity, a leading party member, Mr. Yawson Otoo, underscored the importance of the new office in easing pressure on the current constituency office in Agona Swedru and reducing operational costs for members.
“I want to call on all party faithfuls to come together with unity of purpose for the victory ahead. Let’s take advantage of President John Dramani Mahama-led NDC Government’s mismanagement of the economy and forge ahead with unison.
“The NPP is riped to recapture political power in 2028 and also recapture Agona West Parliamentary seat as well so let’s do away with personal interest but seek party interest.
“What we in the NPP should know is that the party is bigger than any individual member from the top hierarchy to the grassroot,” he stated.
The event also received royal endorsement. The Omankrado of Agona Nyakrom, Nana Akufo IV, speaking on behalf of the Omanhene of the Nyakrom Traditional Area, Okofo Katakyie Nyarku Eku X, welcomed the project and cautioned the party to guard against internal disunity that could derail its 2028 ambitions.
Other dignitaries present included the Constituency Secretary of the NPP, Mr. Anthony Kwame Kum; Deputy Secretary Madam Patricia Addison; and former Presiding Member of the Agona West Municipal Assembly, Hon. Frank Abban.
